Physical therapists (PTs) are health care professionals who evaluate and manage health con

ditions for people of all ages. Typically individuals consult a PT for the management of medical problems or other health-related conditions that; cause pain, limit their ability to move, and limit the performance of functional activities. PTs also help prevent health conditions through prevention, restoration of function and through fitness and wellness programs that achieve healthy and active lifestyles.

A physical therapist will initially conduct a subjective examination of a patient's medical history, and then go on to the objective assessment. The subjective examination is guided by the presenting system and complaint, and the objective assessment is in turn guided by the history. This semistruct

The role of the physiotherapist is to improve a person's mobility and independence. This could be through helping them recover from a chest infection, controlling their pain or helping them to mobilise after a stroke. This approach can prevent someone from being admitted to hospital, speed up their recovery if in hospital and promote an early discharge. They work across a wide range of specialities and care groups.
